Pottery Supplies Store NYC - Blick Art Materials

I often get asked where to find pottery supplies in NYC when people come to visit. There are a few physical ceramic shops where you can find pottery supplies, but if you're looking for a wide variety, the best option is to search online (shipping is pretty fast.) However, you can still visit one of my favorite arts and crafts store chains: Blick Arts. They have several stores throughout the city, and the one I’ve been visiting lately is the brand-new location on 443 Broadway.

When I visit Blick, I usually head to the underground floor where they have a small but beautiful selection of materials and tools, including clay and glazes. They also carry different brands of glazes for various firing temperatures, ranging from cone 06 to cone 10. If you're into low fire, they've got you covered. The variety of colors for high-temperature firing is a bit limited.

If you're lucky, you might stumble upon Amaco underglaze pencils, crayons, watercolors, or Bisque Fix. This time, I only found the crayons (seems like the pencils have been discontinued, and I couldn't find them online either). But I ended up trying a different brand, which turned out to be great.

Blick also offers finished bisque ceramics that are very sturdy and ready to be painted and glazed. The shapes may be a bit traditional for my taste, but they have some really nice plate shapes and cool tiles as well.

If you're interested in books about pottery, you might discover a few surprises in their small library on the ground floor.

What I love about Blick is how everything is super well organized, making it easy to browse through all the products. You can easily spend hours here if you're looking to bring your ideas and projects to life. I want to give a special shout-out to the screen-printing, pencils, papers, and paints sections—they're awesome!
