Small Ceramic Kiln For Home Use

After careful consideration, I ultimately decided to go with the Skutt’s Firebox 8×6 Mini-Kiln. This particular affordable studio kiln met all of my requirements and had the added benefit of being compatible with a standard 120v household outlet.

I was eagerly anticipating my first test firing, but unfortunately, I encountered a setback—the start/stop button was malfunctioning.

To resolve this issue, I promptly reached out to Skutt's customer support team. I was pleasantly surprised by their prompt response and willingness to assist. Their initial suggestion was to disconnect the control board and reposition the start/stop/enter key.

However, despite following their instructions, I experienced no improvement. It was then determined that the control board had become bent during the shipping process. Thankfully, the Skutt team quickly made arrangements to send me a brand-new control board.

Installing the new control board was a relatively simple process that only required the use of needle nose pliers and a Philips screwdriver.

Using the pliers, I carefully detached the wires from the old board. Next, I grasped the connector on the end of the red wire and gently pulled it free before securely plugging it into the new board.

I then utilized the Philips screwdriver to remove the thermocouple wire from the old board and successfully installed it onto the new board. With these steps completed, I effortlessly repositioned the board and eagerly tested the functionality of the buttons.

For my initial firing, I selected cone 6 as my desired temperature, and I was delighted with the results. It took a total of 8 hours for the kiln to reach the desired temperature. As an added precaution, I utilized stilts to ensure the safety of my pieces during the firing process.

Fortunately, everything progressed smoothly and without any issues. With this successful test under my belt, I am now fully prepared to utilize the kiln for production purposes.

I am incredibly grateful for the exceptional customer service and warranty provided by Skutt. Cheers to them!
